Indian Split Pea Dhal

A spicy yellow split pea dahl to warm you up from the inside out. The caramelised onions add depth and flavour, so take your time in this step - it will be worth it.

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 tsp salt, divided
  • 1 tbsp Epicure Chopped Ginger
  • 4 tsp Epicure Chopped Garlic
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp Epicure Chopped Red Chilli
  • 200g Epicure Yellow Split Peas, rinsed 800ml water

    Cook onions in a splash of oil with ½ teaspoon salt, for 10 mins, until starting to brown.

    Add ginger and garlic, cook for one min. Tip in spices and cook one min more.

    Stir in split peas, remaining salt and water. Bring to a simmer. Cook with lid slightly ajar, stirring occasionally, for 45 mins, until tender and thick.
